PM to visit Mizoram and Meghalaya tomorrow; will inaugurate various development projects

Shillong all set to welcome PM today

"It is the first large hydropower project in Mizoram which will boost the socio-economic development of the state", the Prime Minister said while addressing a public rally here. He said it is the first major central project to be commissioned in Mizoram.

"I admire the beauty of Mizoram and friendly nature of the people of this state".

Adding that the project would provide eco-tourism and proper drinking water to the people of the state, PM Modi added that the vision of New India can be realized only if fruits of development reach all. He also said that he was the only prime minister after Morarji Desai who has taken part in a meeting of the North Eastern Council.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the Shillong-Nongstoin-Rongjeng-Tura Road in Shillong, Meghalaya and Tuirial Hydropower Project in Aizawl along with several other development projects in these states. Its completion under the present government is a reflection of the committment of this government to complete ongoing projects, Modi said.

He also trained guns at Sangma and said, "The chief minister of Meghalaya is a doctor but what is the state of the health sector in the state". The project was first declared and cleared by the Union Government of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, way back in 1998, but got delayed.

"Across the North East, the Union Government has sanctioned around four thousand kilometers of National Highways, for an amount of over Rs. 32000 crore".

"The high literacy rate, scenic beauty and availability of large English speaking population of Mizoram makes a flawless blend to develop the state as a model tourist destination", the PM added.

Modi expressed hope that all these will increase the scope for economic linkages, and will be contributing to the overall economic growth and development of the Region.
