Weather warnings have been issued after thick fog brought chaos to Manchester this afternoon shutting the city's airport and leaving holidaymakers facing hours of delays and cancellations.

Forecasters have warned of slower journey times, and possible delays to public transport.

Experts are warning of travel disruption, including cancelled flights, as severe fog is forecast to hit much of the UK.

The yellow weather warning doesn't stretch to coastal areas, but it is icy with temperatures dropping to minus one overnight.
