The NFL and the NFL Players Association will review to determine if the league's concussion protocol was followed when Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton left an NFL playoff game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
However, the question could become whether or not Newton should have been taken to the locker room for evaluations.
The organisation stipulates that any player suspected of having concussion must be evaluated in the dressing room.
Immediately after the game, which ended the Panthers' season, Newton and coach Ron Rivera maintained that Newton had been poked in the eye.
The Bills had not featured in the play-offs since losing 22-16 at this stage in 1999, and had not reached the divisional round since 1995. "It was my eye", Newton told reporters.

Actress Barbara Meier also ignored the evening's dress code and opted for a sheer floral gown. She added that she was wearing a body suit under her dress.
'My helmet had came down low enough over my eyelid and it got pressed by the player's stomach I believe. Newton came out of the game for one play, was not sent to the specified blue medical tent and then re-entered and played the remainder of the game.
Rivera took the same stance on the injury Monday morning and said he didn't think anything had changed with the quarterback's condition, "but, again, I'm not the doctor".
But he's made a special exception this year for Kalil; he also thanked the veteran tackle for allowing him to get a sack in the first meeting against the Panthers.
Newton said after the game that it wasn't his head that had gotten injured. I'm not going to take the cowardly way and point somebody else out'. I feel like plenty of times this year it was up to me.
The beef between Newton and Jordan started in Week 3 of this season, when the Saints beat the Panthers 34-13 at Bank of America Stadium. I thought the quarterback was out of the pocket. "I know he still has to do his exit physicals". I mean there was one time he scooted off for 13 yards and it was very Cam-esque, but at the same time he wanted to be a pocket passer.
