Marvel Studios' Black Panther follows T'Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king.
Lamar, as well as his record label executive Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith, will work to curate the soundtrack for the Marvel film. Lamar and SZA are set to release a single titled "All The Stars". Along with creating this original song, Lamar is producing and curating the soundtrack for the upcoming film, helmed by Creed director Ryan Coogler.
The half time show slated for the championship game is headlined by Kendrick Lamar. "The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture", Lamar said in a statement. Lamar raps in verses that could come from the superhero world or the streets of his native Los Angeles: "You can bring a bullet, bring a sword, bring a morgue / But you can't bring the truth to me". Unlike Marvel's roster of NY based heroes, T'Challa comes with the history of an entire fictional nation at his back, informing just about every aspect of his character, from the legacy of the Black Panther mantle to the politics of his kingdom.
Lamar added, "Marvel Studios' Black Panther is incredible, from its cast to its director. I'm truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside Ryan and Marvel's vision".
