PTI leader Tanzeela Imran has filed the petition and pleaded that the police at the behest of CM Shehbaz and Rana Sana Ullah targetted the protesters through direct firing during a protest rally carried out by the people to voice protest against the rape and murder of a minor in Kasur.

Two protesters were killed on Wednesday after an angry crowd tried to storm the local police headquarters, and police opened fire.The Punjab government is offering a 10m rupee ($90,000; £67,000) reward for anyone who helps police find and arrest Zainab's killer, and has offered 3m rupees each to the families of those killed by police on Wednesday, the BBC was told. According to police sources cited by Reuters, a total of 26 people have been charged and questioned about the 7-year case, including two relatives.

Zainab's parents returned from their pilgrimage on Wednesday but they were unable to attend their child's funeral prayers. The gang had allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted at least 280 children in the area, had blackmailed the families of the victims since 2009, and even sold video clips and images of the assault online. Her body was found in a rubbish dump on Tuesday.

The meeting was briefed on the brutal rape and murder case by the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

"I have nothing to say, I just want justice for my daughter", her mother was quoted as saying.

She had gone to a religious tuition centre near her house in Kasur city, some 50km from Lahore, on January 5 from where a man said to be a "serial killer" abducted her, police said.

Zainab's father claimed that police "did not cooperate" with them: "It is our friends who have stood by us", he regretted.

It is to be mentioned here that as many as 12 children have been killed after rape in Kasur in one year whereas police officers have killed three people involved in such criminal activities.

The chief minister of Punjab province, Shahbaz Sharif visited Ansari's parents to assure them that the perpetrators would be apprehended soon, a provincial government spokesman said.
