Detroit police officer Glenn Doss dies, days after being shot while on duty

Officer Glenn Doss died at Detroit Receiving Hospital shortly after 1:00 this afternoon, according to Detroit Police Chief James Craig.

Boss Craig held a question and answer session outside Detroit Receiving Hospital Sunday evening to report the officer's demise, calling Officer Doss an "American Hero".

'He fought a good fight, ' Craig told reporters.

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said Doss "was everything that is good about Detroit".

Doss and different officers were called to the 5500 piece of McDougall Wednesday night for reports of a couple contending and conceivable shots discharged.

He is charged with multiple counts of felony firearms, resisting and obstructing, and assault with intent to murder. "I want to thank God for the 25 years he allowed me the honor and the pleasure to raise such a great young man", said Doss Sr.

Duggan asked the public to keep another Detroit police officer, Officer Johnson, who is now battling for his own life, in their thoughts. "And yet the 2,500 men and women of this department go back out there every day".

Police say Decharlos Brooks fired 32 shots at officers before running inside the home where he had been arguing with his wife.

Doss was a two year veteran and had recently welcomed his first child with longtime girlfriend Emily.

The officer and his partner, a rookie then six months out of the training academy, responded to a domestic assault at an apartment building on Joy Road on Detroit's west side about 10:45 p.m. Sunday, April 30. Doss was a passenger in a police auto and was shot before he exited his patrol vehicle. Police eventually fired tear gas into the house early Thursday and arrested the 43-year-old when he came out. By Sunday, the page had raised more than $16,000.

According to a report in Click on Detroit News, an NBC affiliate, Doss who was sitting in the passenger seat was shot twice while another police squad vehicle was also hit by bullets.
