Nancy Pelosi Delivers Recording Breaking 8-Hour Marathon Speech On DACA

Nancy Pelosi has been telling DREAMer stories for 7 hours. And she's still talking

Pelosi Makes Epic, Hours Long Speech For DACA

House Democrats have reversed course and started whipping members to vote against the bipartisan budget deal to fund the government and avert another shutdown.

The wide-ranging budget accord says nothing about renewing the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, called DACA, which temporarily shields Dreamers - hundreds of thousands of immigrants brought to the country as children and living here illegally - from deportation.

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway ripped House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) Thursday on Fox News' "Fox & Friends" for her decision to "grandstand and showboat for all the world to see" while rejecting the bipartisan budget deal on the House floor Wednesday.

According to the House historian's office, she delivered the longest floor speech since 1909 - and possibly ever.

"This was such a proud day for me because when my grandson blew out the candles on his cake, they said, 'Did you make a wish?'".

Politico likewise reported that Pelosi's speech left Democrats "underwhelmed", pleasing neither staunch immigration advocates or centrists. Her speech focused on the young undocumented immigrants in the United States also known as Dreamers.

FTSE 100 watch: Footsie stays in the red after BoE rate decision
Well, because the market thinks BoE might raise interest rate in May to contain inflation. That will nearly certainly have change over the course of the Thursday session.

"House Democrats have a voice here and we must be heard", Pelosi wrote. Boehner took to the floor to make a political point because as the minority leader he had little power to hold up the legislation he opposed. But Ryan said he'll only allow the House to vote on an immigration bill that Trump will sign. While that bill is expected to pass easily in the Senate, the House will be a tougher sell. At 5 p.m., Pelosi, who is 77, crossed the seven-hour mark. Numerous so-called "Dreamers" could lose protection from deportation - granted by the Obama administration in 2014 and rescinded by Donald Trump last fall - in the coming weeks.

Shutting down the government comes with its own political risks, but Democrats' failing to keep their promise to force a solution for the hundreds of thousands of Dreamers could make the 2018 midterms more hard as the party works to regain control of the House.

Throughout the speech Pelosi took sips of water and an aide told ABC News she had nothing to eat.

"Without a commitment from [House Speaker Paul Ryan] comparable to the commitment from Leader McConnell, this package does not have my support".

Speaking to reporters afterwards, she added: "We achieved the recognition of what the Dreamers mean to America". When she finally finished speaking at 6:11pm EST, she then tweeted out a message of appreciation to everyone, writing, "Just seeing all of these #GoNancyGo messages".

Leader Pelosi today announced her intention to vote against any deal that doesn't include a solution for Dreamers. While it's unclear now whether enough of her party will take a similar stance and force the issue as well, Pelosi showed the country that some within the party are still willing to fight.
