The alleged assault took place almost 8 years ago but this morning, Upton explained why she waited so long to make her allegations public.
She was sacked from the shoot the next day, as was the protective snapper, she claims. The next day she found out she'd been fired.
"A lot of girls were sharing how excited they were about the different opportunities they got and the start of their career, and I remembered being in that place", Upton said, "whenever I got the meeting to go meet with Paul Marciano and how different my view of the industry after that meeting was". "He said, 'I'm making sure they're real'".
"I have never been alone with Kate Upton", Marciano said in the statement.
The newlywed tells TIME she's exhausted of having to "laugh off" the misconduct of fashion bosses and photographers in the industry: "I'm sick of being expected to laugh off these aggressive advances and accept the power imbalances that exist", she rages.
Marciano also claimed, Shannon says, to have slept with Kate Upton and boasted, "Look where she is now". "Despite doing everything I could physically do to avoid his touch throughout the meeting, he continued to touch me in a very dominating and aggressive way", Upton said.
Mike Tirico takes over as new face of NBC's Olympic coverage
A full horizontal stream will appear at the bottom of the screen where they can select a particular segment to zoom in on. While I'm not much of a sports fan, I probably will tune in for some of the Winter Olympics-which run from February 9-25.
The Sports Illustrated model's charges against Marciano, first made in a January 31 tweet, has prompted at least two other models to come forward with their own stories about him, as well as another model to make allegations against another prominent man in Marciano's circles.
"Honestly, I think that it would be so nice to see big corporations and businesses doing this on their own, having investigations and looking into their offices on their own without victims needing to come forward". She said Marciano threatened her career or more, by saying he would make her "disappear" if she said anything. She later realized it wasn't her fault and that she had to empower herself against Marciano. "Nor would I ever refer to a Guess model in such a derogatory manner", he stated.
While Marciano continued to pursue her, even showing up at her hotel, Upton declined her boss's advances until she was told by her modeling agency that the company was firing her from the campaign for "getting too fat". Upton said Guess Jeans offered her $400,000 in 2012 to be the face of another campaign, but she couldn't bring herself to work with Marciano again.
Marciano has vehemently denied Upton's allegations, telling Time that Upton's accusations are "absolutely false" and "preposterous".
All of this sounds reminiscent of the behavior of disgraced mogul Harvey Weinstein, i.e. the forceful invitations to spend time alone, the mention of other successful women he'd supposedly slept with.
