The greatest river flood threat will be along the Greenbrier River where confidence is increasing that minor to potentially moderate flooding may occur Sunday to Monday.

An Areal Flood Watch is in place for many from 7pm this evening through 12am Monday. A flood watch will be in effect through Sunday afternoon.

Widespread rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are likely, with localized amounts over 2.5 inches possible.Continue to monitor forecasts for updates. If all of this snow melts during the peak of this rain event, this will greatly increase the chances for flooding.

WTOP's Dave Dildine said that the area has seen a precipitation deficit of about 5 to 8 inches, and the weekend rain may help steer the area out of its severe drought status.

The ground is very saturated, so it wouldn't take a strong wind gust to topple a tree.
