Indian PM Modi visits UAE to boost bilateral ties

Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted that Prime Minister Modi expressed honest thanks for logistical support extended for smooth facilitation for his Palestine visit.

Modi became the first Indian leader in history to visit Israel in July previous year, with the two states signing deals on cybersecurity and energy.

The Palestinian leader said he was counting on India's support for multi-country sponsorship of future Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, which could replace the United States as the sole mediator to the conflict.

India and the UAE on Saturday signed five MoUs, including in the areas of energy and railways, following delegation-level talks headed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan here. "I am looking forward to my discussions with President Mahmoud Abbas and reaffirming our support for the Palestinian people and the development of Palestine", he said.

Abbas accorded a red carpet welcome to Modi, the first Indian PM to make an official visit to Palestine.

PM Modi thanked Palestine for giving him this Grand Collar of the State and stated this as an honour for all Indians and a symbol of Palestine's friendship.

An MoU was signed for setting up of an India-Palestine super-specialty hospital at Beit Sahour in Bethelhem governorate at a cost of $30 million.
