Airbus thus delivered only 181 A320neo instead of 200 initially expected.

European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) had issued a emergency airworthiness directive (EAD) on Feb 9, that warns even possibility of dual engine in-flight shut-down. "Like other P&W GTF engine powered A320 neo operators globally, IndiGo continues to operate its other A320 neo aircraft", IndiGo said in the filing.

The problem stems from a component in the engine that can show early signs of wear, and it's located in an area that must withstand high pressure, an Airbus spokesperson said.

ETOPS certification allows twin engine aircraft to fly straight, rather than flying close to airports for diversion in case of an engine trouble.

The grounding of planes seems to have hit the airline's operations badly.

"We have identified the potentially affected engines and communicated with our customers", Pratt & Whitney said in a statement. We are working to resolve this issue swiftly to minimize disruption.

U.S. stocks fall again, Wells Fargo shares sink
In the meantime, Wells Fargo is permitted to continue accepting customer deposits and make consumer loans, the Fed said. Vertical Group raised Wells Fargo & Co from a "sell" rating to a "buy" rating in a report on Thursday, December 7th.

Airlines with A320neos that have the affected engines will have to ground some of their planes, the Journal said. A spokesman for Airbus was not immediately able to comment when contacted.

P&W's Purepower GTF engine family powers all the new generation single aisle passenger jets except the Boeing 737 MAX.

Several A320neo family aircraft have experienced engines failures in flight or during take-off, EASA states.

The issue is the latest in a string of problems that have bedeviled the GTF program. Both A320neos and A321neos are affected.

Interestingly, the PW1100G is the highest thrust variant (110-160 kN) in the engine family and also the most number in operational use. "This issue is isolated to a limited subpopulation of engines", it added. Approximately 374 units were delivered in 2017.

Two Airbus were grounded in on Sunday due to technical snag resulting in cancellations of two of its flights.
