Queensland Ambulance last night was called to the home in Ferny Grove in Brisbane to attend the man who was injured "as a result of having a shower during the current electrical storm lightning strike".

On Monday morning, Logan City, south of Brisbane, still had more than 40,000 properties without electricity, Brisbane nearly 7,000 and Redland City about 2,300.

"Storms have caused mass damage including ripping down 500+ power lines".

The man is conscious and breathing but suffering leg pain, the ABC reports.

He said the storm brought strong winds and not much rainfall, but that this was not unusual for Brisbane storms.

Wild winds did much of the damage, with gusts of 109km/h recorded at Redcliffe, 107km/h in the Redlands district, and 90km/h across Brisbane.

"But for Brisbane itself over many years we've seen winds higher than this". With the Bureau's warning thresholds, anything greater than 90 kilometres per hour is considered damaging and we do see those in severe storms.

"The extreme weather event also caused disruption to Brisbane and Sunshine Coast trains services due to power outages and failing radio communications".

Energex spokesman Ty Marega said crews are on standby until the storms clear but they are unable to act before then.

With more storms forecast on Monday residents were warned to move cars under cover, be wary of fallen power lines and seek shelter if necessary.

Forecasters said nearly identical conditions on Monday could generate more gusty thunderstorms cross the south-east from Monday afternoon, including in Brisbane and on the Gold and sunshine coasts.
