Google to expand Smart Reply feature to third party apps

A Google R&D team wants to bring Smart Reply to all your chat apps

Google is testing smart replies in popular third-party messaging apps

It appears Google is working to bring its Smart Reply feature to a variety of messaging apps from third parties, not just its own services such as Allo, Inbox, Assistant, and Gmail. But the feature has not been made available to all Android Messages users as of yet. Area 120, an experimental program inside Google, developed the new Reply project for this exact objective. Lastly, it has a vacation responder feature that will tell people if users are not working on the basis of checking their calendar.

According to reports by Android Police, Google's experimental lab called Area 120 has developed a new system called Reply that it is testing with volunteers.

The official email asserts that Reply is relied upon to work with real informing applications including Hangouts, WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, Android Messages, Skype, Twitter DMs, and Slack. Like we said, the feature is available for Inbox and Gmail and Allo, but Google's internal incubator Area 120 wants to bring it onto other apps like Google Hangouts and Android Messages. The shared mail highlights some of the key features of the Reply app like the app can mute your phone while you're driving and reply to anyone who sends you text that you can't chat right now. If, for example, a recipient gets an invitation to a party or a meeting, the AI will automatically interpret this and provide appropriate responses like "I'll be there", or "See you!" or something along those lines.

Other features of the Reply function include a Do Not Disturb mode.

To join the beta program for Reply, Android users can simply sign up here. It will also be able to override your phone's silent mode in the case of an emergency or more urgent message. These responses are short and created to be quick, making replying certain emails a lot faster. For example, if a message like "We're waiting for you!" comes in, Reply can get your attention and ask you to respond. Smart Reply has already become one of the most useful features in Gmail, for people with a lot of inbound, or for people who answer a lot of emails on the go. "Like all other projects within Area 120, it's a very early experiment so there aren't many details to share right now".
