After Canada and Switzerland traded deuces with the hammer in ends one and two to make it 2-2, the Canadians smashed the game open by taking advantage of a Rios miss on an open big weight hit.
"It feels fantastic", Morris said after the pair stood on the top of the podium at the Gangneung Curling Centre.
" This is for everyone back home [in Canada] that's always been supportive".
Canada claimed a third gold medal at the Winter Olympics with victory over Switzerland in the inaugural curling mixed doubles.
It seemed like just another day in the office for Morris and Lawes, who took the match against defending world champions Martin Rios and Jenny Perret at 10-3 in the final. The 29-year-old won gold at the 2014 Sochi Games in Russian Federation playing third for Jennifer Jones. Each had been to the Winter Games before, him in 2010, her in 2014, both coming home with gold medals, both desperate for another shot at the world's best bonspiel. We got off to a great start. "At this stage in my career, I am really loving the mixed doubles", Morris told The Homestretch on Tuesday.
Morris and Lawes again demonstrated their great team dynamic at the climax of the fourth end, the former angling his stone to slow Switzerland's progress and lead 6-3 at the halfway mark.
St-Gelais also took silver in the 500 during the 2010 Vancouver Games and earned silver in the 3,000-metre relay in each of the previous two Olympics.

"It sounds surreal", Lawes said when asked how it felt to be a two-time gold medalist, "and I don't know if that's ever going to sink in".
"One more, we need one more", said Rios.
Mixed doubles games are eight ends instead of the traditional 10.
Veteran racer Marianne St-Gelais, competing in her final Games, failed to make it out of the quarter-finals after receiving a penalty for impeding. "It's so easy to give up big points but we were patient and John's making a ton of shots".
The two teams engaged in a tense tug of war in the first couple of ends, and Switzerland hit back immediately after surrendering two points in the opener, levelling at two points apiece through Perret.
Things went so well for Canada that they did not need to throw their last rock in the eighth end once in their final seven games of the tournament.
Lawes, who curled just 41 per cent through the first four ends of Monday's 8-4 semifinal victory over Norway, was at 88 per cent during Tuesday's game before her final shot in the fifth scored two to extend Canada's lead to 8-3. "It's something that everyone that loves curling back in Canada should try".
