Ex-Major League Baseball journeyman Esteban Loaiza was arrested Friday with more than 20 kilos of either cocaine or heroin, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Office, and is now in jail on $200,000 bond.

The 46-year-old was being held in the South Bay Detention facility on $200,000 bail on suspicion of possessing and transporting narcotics for sale.

It was not immediately known if Loaiza had hired a lawyer, and he could not be reached to comment.

A traffic stop was conducted, and during the search, investigators found a compartment in the vehicle used to hide contraband, the release stated.

According to information that has been released by the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, Loaiza was targeted as part of a drug-smuggling sting by the Border Crime Suppression Team. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
