John Kavanagh: Conor McGregor could squeeze in Floyd Mayweather rematch before 'real' MMA fight

Conor McGregor took another jab at Floyd Mayweather on Sunday, claiming that he was "happy" that the retired boxer has no longer in negotiations for a fight against him.

Previously, UFC President Dana White stated a rematch between McGregor and Mayweather would only happen under MMA rules during a recent appearance on UFC Tonight earlier this month.

Still, McGregor's absence from the Octagon, Mayweather's possible interest in a return and fans' enduring appetite for this pairing will keep it a must-watch story.

There had been rumours that the pair would have a big money rematch following their August boxing match, in which Mayweather comfortably defeated McGregor via 10th round TKO. He has not fought in MMA since he won the title in November 2016. He sees a path to the fight later this year, but doesn't think it should be what's next for McGregor.

She reportedly had stayed in Syria for 4 days before journeying on to Mosul, where she remained until her capture. Daesh later claimed responsibility for the ambush in a statement published on its Aamaq news agency.

Even if the unthinkable happened and a deal was made which would bring the Mayweather vs. McGregor bout into the cage, where would this leave the Irishman? The fight was notable since McGregor basically had to drop what he knew about MMA and train fast for boxing in order to fight against Mayweather.

Whether McGregor is safisfied with that situation and happy to fight against either of his rivals in a defence of the belt for them, remains to be seen.

"He's 50-0 and getting on, I'm not calling him out".

"If [McGregor] comes back in September, that's nearly two years". Don't get me wrong, I believe he can beat some of those fighters like he did with the other guys, but it ain't worth it. April's lightweight mega-clash between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov just might decide the champion of the division in his absence.
