Attorney Alex Van Der Zwaan is charged with making "materially false, fictitious, and fraudulent statements and representations" to the special counsel's office and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, according to a court filing released Tuesday morning. Many considered Van der Zwaan's indictment quite insignificant while others, on the other side of the political divide, saw it as more evidence of Trump's collusion with Russian Federation. Manafort and Gates continued their work for Yanukovych afterward, and van der Zwaan moved on to other things - most notably marrying Eva Khan, the daughter of Ukrainian-Russian billionaire German Khan, in the summer of 2017.
The firm produced a report earlier in the decade for the pro-Russian government in Ukraine that largely defended the prosecution and conviction of Tymoshenko. Gates, a former Trump campaign aide, was indicted previous year on charges of conspiracy to launder money and acting as an unregistered foreign agent.
Tymoshenko was jailed in 2011 after being convicted by the Ukrainian government of abuse of power. The report defied the view held by the US and the European Union that the case against her was politically motivated.
The information alleges Van Der Zwaan falsely said his last communication with Gates was in August 2016 and his last communication with "Person 'A" was in 2014.
He "did willfully and knowingly make materially false, fictitious, and fraudulent statements and representations", according to the charges.
The prosecutors contend that Van Der Zwann lied when he said he did not know why a September 2016 email between him and an unnamed person was not turned over to Mueller's office when he actually had deleted it.
Gates, along with former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, was indicted by Mueller previous year for money laundering and conspiracy against the United States.

Currently, parents and other family members are gathering outside the school to be reunited with their children. The middle school and high school were placed on lockdown, according to the district's website.
Gates is reportedly planning to accept a plea deal from Mueller.
Gates was Manafort's business partner.
A federal grand jury indicted 13 Russians and three Kremlin-linked companies, and charged them with a years-long multi-million dollar effort to disrupt the USA election that was aimed in part at helping President Trump win the White House.
Meanwhile, Manafort, who was once described as an global "gun for hire" when it came to advancing Russian interests, has always been a focus of Mueller's investigation over his murky ties.
Following Manafort's indictment Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Washington should investigate the connections of the businessmen with ex-Ukrainian leader Yanukovich rather than blaming Russian Federation with whom the men have no apparent connection.
Yanukovych fled to Russian Federation as the demonstrations escalated and grew bloody, and he is now living under the protection of the Kremlin.
In his response, President Trump emphasized that last part. And The New York Times discovered in August 2016 that the Party of Regions designated almost $13 million in undisclosed cash payments in Manafort's name. The man who commissioned the report was Paul Manafort, who served as Trump's campaign manager until he was sacked in August 2016 amid revelations about extensive lobbying work for a pro-Russian Ukrainian political party.
