The category launched with 2,000 homes in 13 cities. The addition of these new categories give guests more options while allowing hosts to be more transparent about their rentals, the company said. Collections, properties suited for a certain demographic of travelers like families and honeymooners, is also debuting today.
Mr. Chesky said that the quality standards were established after a team of employees interviewed several hundred of Airbnb's top-rated hosts. Rather than just booking a hotel at a luxury resort you find on TripAdvisor, Airbnb is trying to build the credibility that it can offer unique experiences you won't find in those hotel environments - whether that's a tiny apartment in the middle of Shinjuku, Japan, to a lovely condo in the middle of Ponta Delgada in the Azores.
The company on Thursday introduced two new tiers - Plus and Beyond - as well as four new property types - Vacation Home, Unique Space, B&B, and Boutique - all of which promise to make it easier to find the type of travel accommodations you're after.
Finally, Airbnb is redesigning its website to include more personalized collections for travelers to choose from. These are in addition to the three it already has - shared spaces, private rooms and entire homes.
In one of the most significant updates since the San Francisco-based firm launched a decade ago, Airbnb added what it called "Plus" and "Beyond" lodging options along with a handful of new categories such as bed-and-breakfast, boutique and "unique space".
Rather than just searching for a home on Airbnb and flipping through the photos or reviews, the new tiers may offer customers willing to spend more an opportunity to tap into the same expectations they'd get from a luxury resort - or, at least, a higher-end one aiming to hit the status of something like the Sofitel in Bangkok, Thailand.
Racist Letter With White Powder Sent To Prince Harry And Meghan Markle
The force said Thursday that detectives are investigating an offence of malicious communication in relation to the package. Once Meghan marries Harry, she will officially become a member of the Royal family and receive briefings on security.
Chief among them is Airbnb Plus, a new tier of homes that have been personally verified for quality and comfort via a 100-plus point checklist that covers cleanliness, comfort and design, to name just three.
It will offer people who rent their homes through the tier in-home design consultation and expert photography, but did not say if there was a cost associated with the services or listings.
To combat that, Airbnb is launching Collections, to "connect every guest to their flawless home and meet the needs of such a diverse range of travelers".
The company is celebrating its 10-year anniversary and unveiled their next venture at press conference today in San Francisco - they're now targeting the luxury market. "Beyond by Airbnb will offer luxury rentals with 'world-class hospitality" later this spring. Airbnb is launching nine exciting new collection in total but the family and work collections are available beginning today.
Hosts and guests are the heart of Airbnb. The company said in the release that it will soon add new benefits to the Superhost program as well. Visit airbnb.com/superhost to see the full range of benefits. Superguest will launch initially to 10,000 guests as a trial this summer before being rolled out to Airbnb's wider guest community before the end of the year.
Airbnb, which first launched in August 2008, has hosted over 300 million guest arrivals in its ten years existence.
