DPH: 20 More Connecticut Flu Deaths

Across the province there have been 69 flu related deaths, up slightly from the 64 in the 2016-2017 flu season. 2,515 cases are influenza "B" an increase of 258 per cent.

Of the 158 cases in P.A. and area this season, 30 led to hospitalization.

The numbers are among figures that show a big rise in new cases province-wide the last month.

The previous flu season saw only 1,900 cases between September and April.

The state Department of Public Health reports an additional 20 flu deaths for the week ending last Saturday.

The HPSC also said that there were 13 acute respiratory infection/influenza general outbreaks during that week, bringing the total number of outbreaks this season to 166. Type A virus was more prevalent in the early part of the season.

Those anxious about the flu or feel that might be at risk, should speak with their doctor about getting the flu shot or other preventative measures. There have been over 6,200 confirmed cases of the flu, DPH said.
