"At approximately 12:25 p.m., East Coweta High School administrators were made aware that a student may have a gun on campus", Allen wrote.

The student also reportedly told police officers they got the idea from watching school shooting pranks on YouTube. During the investigation, officials identified the suspect as 17-year-old Fernando Vasquez and located a firearm in his vehicle. The student was subsequently identified and arrested without incident, he said.

The student was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.

NBC Charlotte is choosing to show Vasquez's booking photo and name because he's charged with a felony as an adult.

Police are working with the Wagoner County DA to put together an assembly that will help educate students on the seriousness of these kinds of threats.

"The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Police Department take threats of violence towards students and staff very seriously and are now investigating all these incidents", CMPD said Thursday.

Police say they received a report on Tuesday, Feb. 27 that a 14-year-old, ninth grade Proctor student had made threats to "shoot up the school".
