The short film may have been a different angle for the Westworld team, but they showcased their ability to create an eclectic film portraying the time, effort and process of the Falcon Heavy launch as if we were involved ourselves - and let's face it, we wish we were.

When asked on a timeline on when this will all be possible, he said his time frames are usually perceived as "optimistic", but SpaceX is now building the first interplanetary ship and he expects "short up-and-down flights" as early as next year.

"A digital extension of you, that is an AI, the AI extension of you, a tertiary layer of intelligence, so you've got your limbic system, your cortex, and the tertiary layer which is a digital AI extension of you, and high bandwidth connection is what achieves a tight symbiosis".

"We are building the first ship, or interplanetary ship, right now", Musk said during a surprise Q&A session at South by Southwest.

That is, in part, what his quest to establish bases on the moon and Mars is about. He also speculated that "most likely, the form of government on Mars would be somewhat of a direct democracy", in which residents would vote directly on particular issues.

Whether an AI-induced third World War is what drives us off the planet, he didn't say. "There's lots of things that are miserable and kind of get you down", Musk said.
