Sam Bradford plans to sign one-year contract with Cardinals

2018 NFL free agency: Bills have 'some interest' in QB Sam Bradford

NFL free agency 2018: Buffalo Bills interested in Sam Bradford, Case Keenum (report)

He'll become the Cardinals' presumed starter as early as Wednesday since they don't now have any quarterbacks under contract.

The Vikings didn't see any drop-off from Bradford to Keenum, which made it more likely that they'd move on from the 2010 No. 1 pick.

The Cardinals have turned their attention to Bradford in this year's free-agency after losing out on Kirk Cousins, who plans to sign a three-year $84m deal with the Minnesota Vikings. The former No. 1-overall pick of the Rams will be signing with the Arizona Cardinals, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter. He had a resurgence in 2016, though, when he threw for 20 touchdowns and five interceptions with Minnesota. Still available are AJ McCarron, Teddy Bridgewater and Josh McCown, who quarterbacked the Jets last season.

It will supposedly have protection for the team in case of injury.

The 2008 Heisman Trophy victor who grew up in Oklahoma City threw for 346 yards and three touchdowns in a Week 1 win over New Orleans, but suffered a hit that sidelined him for weeks, and a comeback was eventually cut short by knee surgery. Bradford looked exceptional in Week 1 a year ago for the Vikings, but dealt with a knee injury and was usurped by Case Keenum.

The Cardinals have been looking for a replacement at quarterback following the retirement of Carson Palmer after the 2017 season.

The Broncos and Keenum will have a short-term deal in place when free agency opens at 2 p.m. Wednesday, a source confirmed to KARE sister station, 9NEWS. Backups Drew Stanton and Blaine Gabbert are also set to be free agents. It might not be quite as dire as the one Bradford surprisingly thrived working behind in Minnesota two seasons ago, but it's not that far off.
