Nearly a year after it rolled out on Google Chrome, dark mode is coming to YouTube's mobile app.

The feature debuted on the YouTube desktop client a year ago. Users can easily activate this feature by tapping on the account icon, settings and then dark theme. Though the feature started as part of a limited test in April 2017, Dark Mode later rolled out to all YouTube users in May along with the site's Material Design visual overhaul. The feature was heavily requested for mobile apps after the launch on desktop. Those on desktop can now activate the feature by clicking the three dots on the top right corner and then dark theme.

The dark mode was first spotted back in January by MacRumors.

For those who like to watch YouTube in bed at night, this Dark theme will help keep brightness to a minimum, especially if you have a partner who is sensitive to light at night.

YouTube's update is reportedly being done to reduce glare and give the app a more "cinematic view" as its users consume videos and even movies on the platform. That list includes Twitter and third-party Twitter clients, Reddit and third-party Reddit clients, Feedly, Pocket Casts, and more.
