Ottawa County ranked No. 1 in overall health outcomes by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's county health rankings for 2018.
"Our county health departments work hand in hand with local leaders and community partners to address the many individual and environmental factors that impact health", said State Surgeon General Dr.
The five Georgia counties in the poorest health, starting with least healthy, are Quitman, Warren, Crisp, Turner and Early. It also ranks below several suburban and rural counties in the Triad and Northwest North Carolina, including Watauga (eighth), Davie (13th) and Randolph (38th). "Unfortunately, many Delta residents don't have reliable access to a primary care provider and are not able to address symptoms before they worsen or get care for chronic conditions on a regular schedule".
That's up one spot from previous year when the county was ranked number 33.
"The rankings have been very instrumental in driving community conversation and it has created a lot of energy in Petersburg.in terms of community voice, community input and community drive to improve the health of the community", Hart said.
Pennsylvania counties range from 4 to 11 percent of babies born with low birth weight, the report says.

Other southeastern Wisconsin counties lagged in the rankings.
The County has a 94% graduation rate, our unemployment rate is 3.5%, and we reported 158 violent crimes.
Rankings for the entire state can be found on the organization's website. Black respondents, however, indicated answers most similar to those living in the least healthy quartile of counties. Olmsted County came in at #14, Freeborn County is #34, and Mower County is ranked the 56th healthiest county in Minnesota. This can be a significant indicator of future health status. "We look forward to using this year's County Health Rankings data to help inform our work".
The authors of the report card noted that children in poverty are less likely to have access to quality schools, and have fewer chances to be prepared for higher-wage jobs. The goal of the rankings project is to give communities a window into their own health, and provide opportunities for their improvement.
