As for the current roster, the deal likely spells bad news for either Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg.

With McCown coming back, the Jets aren't necessarily set now at the quarterback position — although Bowles traditionally opens the offseason program with the incumbent penciled in at No. 1 on the depth chart. Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Josh Allen, and Baker Mayfield have become the consensus top-four options at quarterback with multiple development arms projected to be available on the second and third day of the draft.

In the span of a few hours, the Jets signed Isaiah Crowell, Josh McCown, Trumaine Johnson, and Teddy Bridgewater - the latter being perhaps the most interesting.

Per CBS Sports' Bryant McFadden, Bridgewater and the Jets are finalizing an agreement. McCown set individual highs with 2,926 yards passing and 18 touchdowns, and quickly established himself as a respected leader in the locker room. The monetary details of Bridgewater's deal are not yet known.

As for the sixth overall pick, the Jets are better off doing what they did previous year and building the roster. The Jets are also still expected to draft a QB in the first round this year. The Jets have either struck gold by buying low on a potential franchise quarterback or have taken a flier on a guy they don't even have to start next season.
