Finally, some good news from India Inc: layoffs on pause

Employer confidence remains resilient and job seekers are expected to benefit from a favorable second-quarter hiring climate. "Prospects for the upcoming quarter remain strong, led by exceptionally strong growth in Quebec, where employers are hiring across multiple sectors". While there won't be layoffs, hiring as such will be lower than in previous quarters.

Hiring prospects are weaken in nine of the 10 industry sectors when compared with the previous quarter and this time one year ago, Manpower said.

Across the Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) region, workforce gains are planned in 25 of 26 countries. "It is also a decrease of three percentage points compared with the Outlook report during the same time a year ago, indicating a slow hiring period for the upcoming months".

Employment prospects are positive across all sectors of the Greek economy and all of the country's regions according to the ManpowerGroup survey of employers for the next three months. An increase in staffing levels is anticipated across all industry sectors and seven of eight regions during Q2 2018. The weakest hiring plans are reported in Mining, Government Information and Nondurable Goods Manufacturing. Globally, employers forecast varying levels of job gains in 43 of 44 countries and territories during the April-June time frame, including Croatia where employers, surveyed for the first time, report healthy hiring intentions based on unadjusted survey data. However, Gauteng employers report an improvement of six percentage points, while outlooks for Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal remain relatively stable.

The impact of a softer outlook in the Mining & Construction sector can be seen in Queensland where hiring expectations are down three percentage points year-on-year as the state deals with an end to the frenetic pace of apartment building in Brisbane over recent years.

For the coming quarter, employers in Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Alaska, Maine and Colorado report the strongest Employment Outlooks. Hiring plans improve in five countries and territories year-over-year, decline in two and are unchanged in one.

"Employers continue to have confidence in the local labour market and still expect a modest increase in staffing levels over the next three months".

This survey is conducted quarterly with the objective of measuring employers' intentions to increase or decrease the number of employees in their work forces.
