7000 pairs of shoes on Capitol lawn to represent children lost to gun violence since Sandy Hook

There are 7000 pairs of shoes outside the Capitol. Here's why.

Thousands of small shoes were placed on the ground in front of the Capitol building in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday morning, one pair for each of the estimated 7,000 children who have died from gun violence since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012.

Students all over the country plan to walk out of school for exactly 17 minutes at 10am local time to honor the 17 people who lost their lives at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

And, on March 24, there will be another large demonstration against gun violence.

"What we're saying is killing has to stop", Emma Ruby-Sachs, deputy director of Avaaz, told FOX 5-TV. But the president backed away from those proposals and instead outlined school safety measures this week favored by the National Rifle Association. Each pair represents a child who has been killed by gun violence in the USA since the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Actresses Susan Sarandon and Bette Midler, and talk show host Chelsea Handler were among shoe donors.

There's already a bunch of easter eggs hidden in the video, but now a new theory from fans has surfaced on social media. Jonze's Kenzo video featured Margaret Qualley ducking out of a glitzy gala to go choreographically berserk.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports almost 13 hundred U.S. Children under the age of 17 are killed by guns every year.

That shooting occurred on December 14, 2012, just over five years ago. "Culture is changing in America right now".

Several mass shootings have occurred since Sandy Hook, including the October 1 tragedy in Las Vegas, a church shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, and another school shooting last month in Parkland, Florida. More than 2,500 walkouts are scheduled across the country, according to the organizer's website, including at Marjory Stoneman and Columbine high schools. "They're not going to be distracted about Russian Federation, about other things", Mauser said.

The Monument For Our Kids memorial includes 7,000 pairs of shoes, said Avaaz, the organization behind the event.
