UConn Selected as No. 1 Seed in Albany Region

For the first time since the 1999 and 2000 seasons, Marquette women's basketball will make the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons.

Mississippi State is a No. 1 seed for the first time in school history.

The University of CT women's basketball team was selected as the No. 1 seed in the Albany Region of the 2018 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship, as announced by the NCAA Monday. Notre Dame has been a top-seed the last seven years. The rest of the crew - seniors Kia Nurse and Gabby Williams, juniors Samuelson and Napheesa Collier and others - have not only last season's experiences but the year of training, practices and games that followed. We're a different team than we were past year. The loss broke a 111-game winning streak for UConn and ended a string of four consecutive national championships for the Huskies.

After falling to SC in the national championship a year ago, the Bulldogs won their first 32 games of the season to earn a No. 1 seed in the Kansas City region.

Instead, the Gamecocks were sent to Albany as a No. 2 seed and most likely would face the unbeaten Huskies should they reach the regional final.

The Four #1 seeds are UConn (Albany Region), Louisville (Lexington Region), Mississippi State (Kanas City Region) and Notre Dame (Spokane Region). Whereas previous year she was walking around going, 'I don't know what to do, so I'm not going to do anything.' [Pain with shinsplints] comes and goes". Canada offers a combination of scoring (16.8 ppg), playmaking (6.9 apg) and defense (3.2, 12th in NCAA) that few prospects can match.

The 64 teams that will participate in the 2018 NCAA tournament were revealed Monday evening, and the top overall seed came as a surprise to no one.

Therefore, keep an eye on all of the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds on Tuesday and Wednesday. All of the top four teams in each region host the opening two rounds at home.

NCAA Tournament, first round, Arizona State vs. Syracuse, in Dayton, Ohio, TruTv, 8 p.m. The most exciting event of the fourth quarter was a missed dunk by sophomore guard Nikola Djogo, as Notre Dame coasted to a final score of 84-63. She needs just 61 points to pass Jackie Stiles for second all-time behind Kelsey Plum. Rutgers went 5-6 against the RPI top-50 teams to Oklahoma's 1-8. Two of those losses came to Louisville.

The other potential Sweet 16 pairing would see the Tennessee duo of Jaime Nared (17.1 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 2.3 spg) and Mercedes Russell (15.3 ppg, 9.1 rpg) taking on a young Baylor squad that will be without senior point guard Kristy Wallace, who suffered a torn ACL in her right knee less than two weeks ago.
