Two militants killed in overnight Srinagar encounter after attack on BJP leader

BJP leader attacked in Srinagar, gunfight erupts between security forces, militants

The incident occurred when Jammu and Kashmir police repulsed the attack on the BJP leader Mohammad Anwar Khan and cornered the terrorist s in a residential house after chasing them down at Balhama area of Khunmoh on Thursday afternoon. The policeman identified as Bilal Ahmad suffered injuries in the attack.

They also said that the CRPF trooper who was injured during the gunfight is stable. Clashes erupted in the area as youth took to streets and pelted security forces with stones to disrupt the anti-militant operation.

In what could be perceived as a victory for the Indian forces, two terrorists were neutralised so far in an ongoing encounter between the Indian Army jawans and terrorists.

Earlier, a police spokesman in a statement issued said that militants fired upon the PSOs of political activist Dr Anwar Khan while the latter was visiting Arsh institute at Khonmoh area in the outskirts of Srinagar city.

In the meantime, the suspected militants fled away from the spot, the officer said adding that one of the policemen sustained bullet wounds in the incident.

"It is learned that Mohommad Toufeeq died in an encounter with security forces on the night of 11 and 12 March in Hakoora of Anantnag district along with two other Kashmiri militants".

Both were militants of Ansar Ghazwatul Hind group.
