It's the day when millions of people celebrate Ireland's patron saint but do you know the real objective of a three leaf clover?
Patrick was ordained bishop by the pope in 431, and started his Irish journey a year later. Joe Addabbo, Jr. (D-Howard Beach), one of the measure's co-sponsors, announced on Friday.
Catch Irish rocker Larry Kirwan of Black 47 put on a St. Patrick's Day show at the YMCA Boulton Center in Bay Shore.
"It makes sense to close local schools on a day that is traditionally reserved for celebration, cultural appreciation, and religious observance by many people of Irish descent", the senator said. His heritage includes the Irish monks who traveled around Europe during The Dark Ages. "On March 3, in fact, the Queens County St. Patrick's Day Parade and Cultural Committee held its 43rd Annual St. Patrick's Day parade in Rockaway - an event that everyone, Irish or not, comes together to enjoy".
For more than a decade now, the celebration features Irish dancing, a bag pipe player and of course plenty of cases of Guinness.
The reality is that red-headed leprechauns, pots of gold, lucky charms and green beer actually have little relevance in the holiday's early history.
Trump Gets Dean Heller Challenger to Reconsider
On Twitter, he regularly uses Trump catchphrases like "FAKE NEWS" and "MAGA" while referring to Heller as part of the "Swamp". He added that "public service is doing what is in the best interest of the people you represent, not yourself politically".
Wherever you are each year on March 17, amidst the contagious hilarity, call for a toast in tribute to St. Patrick for his love, devotion and persistence in bringing goodness to those both Irish by birth or in spirit.
Addabbo also pointed out that in 2014, the State Legislature approved a law to enable the Department of Education to determine whether holding classes on days associated with religious or cultural holidays would waste educational resources when significantly fewer students attend school on those days.
"St. Patrick's Day, to me, is hanging out with friends".
It's time for another Wearin' of the Green Parade, one of our most raucous days of the year, made extra festive this year as the parade falls on the actual holiday for the first time in years.
"So what you have is this quite remarkable day where literally over much of the globe, everybody, whether they're Irish or not, the one thing they do know is the 17th of March is Saint Patrick's Day".
On the Morrison's menu for the day are the traditional holiday's eats and drinks, with added special items such as "bubble and squeak" and "bangers and mash".
