Jammu and Kashmir Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Anwar Khan was on Thursday attacked by terrorists in the Pulwama district.
While Khan escaped the attack unscathed, one of his personal security officers (PSO) was injured, the police said.
The incident happened around noon on Thursday when a group of three terrorists fired on Anwar Khan's security cover. Another police personnel was reportedly injured in the exchange of fire with the terrorists, but officials did not confirm it.
Speaking to the media, Jammu and Kashmir Police chief SP Vaid confirmed that security forces believe at least three armed militants are holed up in the area. The BJP leader was attacked in Khanmoh area of the district. "Their identities are being ascertained", a police spokesman said.

About 85 percent of the dead were civilians killed by the forces of the Syrian government and its allies, the Observatory said. He did not say when the alleged attack would take place or provide detailed evidence to back his assertions.
A section of Hurriyat leadership has also raked up the "communal agenda" of BJP, accusing the party of attempting to alter the Muslim demography of the Valley.
The incident occurred at Balhama in Pulwama district, a police official said.
"Security forces immediately surrounded the village and started a cordon and search operation".
Incriminating material including arms and ammunition was seized from the 2 terrorists.
