A senior police officer told GNS that the BJP leader Mohammad Anwar Khan along with his two PSOs was sacked upon by the militants at Balhama near Arash Medical College and tried to snatch service rifles from them.

Additional security forces and state police personnel had been deployed at Pampore and Awantipora on the highway to prevent any law and order problem. The encounter broke out on late Thursday night at Balhama area of Khonmoh in the outskirts of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. His personal security officer Bilal Ahmed was injured in the attack, the police said. The doctors looking after the injured jawan said that the CRPF jawan was stable.

Soon army, CRPF, and SOG rushed to the area and cordoned off the entire as they intensified the searches, the militants hiding in the area fired upon joint team ensuing a gunbattle which was going on when this report was filed.
