Veteran Bollywood actress files rape complaint against Mumbai businessman; accused arrested

A Mumbai businessman has been arrested after a veteran Bollywood actress filed a rape complaint against him, police said today.

After the actress' complaint, the police quickly started an investigation, as the rape case filed by the actress is now transferred to the crime branch, ANI reports stated.

The complaint has been registered under sections 304 D (stalking) and 509 (insulting modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code. The businessman will be produced in court on Friday. The accused, Sarfaraz alias Aman Khanna, was later sent to police remand till March 28 by Mumbai's Esplanade Court. According to various reports, the actress knew the man and they had been good friends, even. Their relationship went downhill after some issues, and she stopped speaking to him. Besides, he also picked a fight with the actress' building security guard.

When the actor failed to stop the man from stalking and harassing her, she made a decision to approach the police.

He made it clear that since the complaint pertains to the Indian Penal Code Section 376, the victim can not be identified. One of her last lead role in Hindi films would be in her 1989 film Gawahi though she later went on to do a few films like "Boom" in 2003 and "Ugly aur Pagli" in 2008.
