"I ask all of you to be on the alert and defend your country, defend your state. God bless our country", Danjuma had said.
The call by Lt Gen Theophilus Danjuma (retd) to arms themselves against rampaging herdsmen has been described as a call to anarchy.
The group in the statement read by Mr. Hassan at a press briefing in Kaduna said prosecuting the retired general will serve as deterrent to others like him.
Danjuma described Taraba as a miniature Nigeria with handsome cultures which the bandits were doing everything to destroy.
He called on the people to rise up and defend themselves, as relying on the armed forces to defend them was suicidal.
"The armed forces are not neutral, they collude with the armed bandits".
The call by the retired general came barely two days after residents of the Takum and Ussa Local Government Areas of Taraba State accused the Army Operation Ayem Akpatuma (Cat Race) of providing cover for the killer herdsmen to attack and kill villagers in the areas.
Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt secures second term of presidency
A couple of possible strong competitors in the presidential race have either withdrawn or been disqualified over violations. The low turnout defied a state law imposing a $28 fine on each eligible voter who fails to cast his ballot.
Vanguard reports that the convener of the Niger Delta Self-Determination Movement (NDSDM) in a statement on Monday, March 26, said that Danjuma stood for equity, justice and truth by speaking against what she called ethnic and religious cleansing. If the government can not defend the people, the people should defend themselves.
The director, Army Public Relations, Brig-General Texas Chukwu, who made this known in a statement at the weekend, said while the Army would not want to join issues with the elder statesman, it called on law-abiding people of Taraba State, Danjuma's home state, to go about their lawful duties.
He added, "It is on record that the successes so far achieved in Ex Ayem Akpatuma in the North Central Region amongst others have been recognised and accepted by Nigerians". There is an attempt at ethnic cleansing in this state and, of course, in all the riverine state of Nigeria.
His words: "The public is notified that Nigerian Army personnel have had to pay the supreme price for ensuring the sustenance of security in Taraba State".
Meanwhile, the Defence Headquarters, said, on Saturday, that it would investigate the allegations made by Danjuma and punish any soldier found to be involved in such "unprofessional conduct".
"The efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces towards restoration of peace, security and order in Nigeria continue to receive appreciation for changing the security environment from what it was before".
"This is highly uncalled for and is invitation to anarchy and should be disregarded by well meaning Nigerians". "And as someone of his experience and pedigree, he shouldn't be making that kind of statement".
