65th National Film Awards: 'Hebbettu Ramakka' named Best Kannada film

65th National Film Awards: Sridevi wins Best Actress for Mom, Newton Best Hindi Film

The late Sridevi was on Friday named the Best Actress posthumously for her role as a vengeful mother in the Hindi film "Mom".

Sridevi's producer-husband Boney Kapoor became emotional to know about her win at the 65th National Film Awards. Sridevi, who passed away on February 24 this year, won the award for her film Mom. "I think she's one of the best actresses I've ever worked with", said Mr Kapur, who hasn't made a film after 1996's Bandit Queen. Dadasaheb Phalke Award will be given to actor Vinod Khanna posthumously.

The jury was headed by director Shekhar Kapur. Apart from being considered the ultimate recognition for films, the awards also hold the distinction of recognising merit across the country and especially in regional cinema.

Singer KJ Yesudas won the award for Best Playback Singer Male for Poyi Maranjakaalam from Viswasapoorvam Mansoor and Shashaa Tirupati won the award for Best Playback Female for Vaan Varuvaan from Kaatru Veliyidai.
