BJP ministers who backed Kathua rape accused resign from state cabinet

The BJP leader said that as far Rohingyas were concerned, Union Home Ministry was seized of the matter and effective steps would be taken "very soon". The state government earlier said in the Assembly that 1,510 acres of land had encroached in the city.

The nation has been on the boil over Kathua gang rape where an eight-year-old girl was allegedly abducted, drugged, raped, tortured and killed in January.

Speaking about the resignations submitted by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders from Jammu and Kashmir, Chandra Prakash Ganga and Lal Singh, BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav stated that there was indiscretion on part of the two ministers and they came under local pressure while speaking at a gathering.

"We thank people of entire country including the intelligentsia and civil society for standing with the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the case".

A Special Investigation Team of Crime Branch, formed to probe the incident, has arrested eight people, including two special police officers (SPOs) and a head constable and a sub-inspector, who were charged with destroying evidence.

She was said to have written to the Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, seeking a fast track court to conclude within 90 days the trial in the case that has caused a nation-wide outrage, official sources said here. The body of the girl was recovered from Rassana forest on January 17 - almost a week after she went missing while grazing horses in the forest area.
