India wants to know when will its daughters get justice: Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi Leads Midnight Candlelight Vigil At India Gate Over Unnao, Kathua Rape Cases

Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua rapes: Rahul leads midnight vigil

Congress chief Rahul Gandhi had last night led a midnight march to the India Gate here to protest the rape cases, asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi to walk the talk on beti bachao (save the girl child).

"Incidents being discussed since past two days can not be part of a civilised society". Opposition's candle march was to show the outrage against the recent rape incidents happened in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh and Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. "It is an insult to the sacrifice made by the freedom fighters who gave their future for the nation". "The women of the country should feel safe", he said.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, BJP national spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi said that the BJP has been speaking out against the Kathua and Unnao rape cases - both incidents that have hogged the national limelight in the last few days.

"I want to assure the nation that no criminal will be spared". Justice will be done and it will be complete justice.

Referring to the reported incident of Ambedkar's sculpture locked in an iron cage and a police personnel deputed for its protection in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun, she said, "You have not kept his statue in the cage but his ideologies". Her body was found in the same area a week later.

Jammu has been on tenterhooks since the brutal rape and murder. Why are accused rapists and murderers protected by the state. Urging J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to "take a stand", AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh said Mufti had no "moral right to continue with the BJP". In the Kathua case, the rape victim had disappeared from near her house on January 10.

US, Russia clash over Syria at UN
Yesterday's meeting marked the 12th time Russian Federation has used its veto to block Council action on Syria. The vote was 12 in favor, with Bolivia joining Russian Federation in voting "no" and China abstaining.

The response of the BJP and the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir has been largely political in what has become the trigger for communal polarisation.

Congress senior leader Gulam Nabi Azad said, "The government is sleeping and so at this time Congress will have to wake them up".

"When you are in public life, people come to you with their version..."

In another case, BJP lawmaker Kuldeep Singh Sengar has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly raping a minor girl in Unnao town of the state. The girl attempted self-immolation on April 8 in front of Yogi Adityanath's residence to protest against inaction and shielding minister.

The family has alleged that the police refused to file an FIR.
