Amazon Echo Spot is now available for pre-order in Australia – launching next week

But now, thanks to Amazon's new Alexa Skill Blueprints initiative, you can make your own - and you don't need to be an app developer to do so. Trivia games, jokes, short stories and many more fun templates are already included so users can set up their own Alexa skills very easily.

There are also more practical options, like programming instructions for a babysitter or houseguest. Alexa Skill Blueprints will allow average household owners to customize a wide range of questions with questions and answers.

The Spot features numerous same features that Amazon's other Echo products do, including access to the 15,000 local "skills" (applications) available through Amazon and other third parties. Where IFTTT connects with all manner of apps and services, Alexa Blueprints is mostly still kept to itself. There are tonnes of free Skills available in the Alexa Skill store. Skill or some other trivia Skill available. You'll need to sign in with your Amazon account in order to get started, as the responses are kept private to your own Amazon Echo devices. If it's your first time using a template, follow the step-by-step tutorial provided.

Prior to that update, people could make audio or video calls as long as they use Alexa-powered devices including Amazon's Echo, or iOS and Android-based smartphones, or Echo Dot Internet-connected speaker. Each can be edited to suit a user's needs, and there is a button to add more.

If you named your custom skill, "John's Birthday", you can just say, "Alexa, open John's Birthday skill".

The skill could take any form including a custom joke response to an Alexa question like "who's the best dad in the world", and loads of others, The Verge reports.

The Echo Spot contains second generation far-field technology with four microphones, acoustic beam-forming technology and enhanced noise cancellation so it can hear you from across the room-even while music is playing. You can then find your skills at this page. Any user can program custom responses to specific questions or commands without any coding or tech skills being required.
