Alabama, Notre Dame to Hold Home-and-Home Football Series in 2028, 2029

Alabama and Notre Dame have finalized a home-and-home football series to take place in 2028-29. The first meeting will take place on September 2, 2028 in South Bend, before invading Tuscaloosa's Bryant-Denny Stadium on September 1, 2029.

In the seven-game history between the two schools, this will be the third time they meet in a home-and-home during the regular season.

This will be the 8th meeting between the two schools, with Notre Dame holding a 5-2 edge over the Tide.

As Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne says, "It doesn't get much more tradition-rich than Alabama and Notre Dame when it comes to college football".

The Irish will make their first appearance in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama has played at Notre Dame twice. The previous road meetings were both played in Birmingham (Legion Field in 1980 and 1986). The last Irish victory in the series came in 1987, a 37-6 win. Second-ranked and unbeaten Notre Dame knocked off top-ranked and unbeaten Alabama, 24-23, at old Tulane Stadium in New Orleans.

The Irish have played Southeastern Conference members on 46 previous occasions and hold an all-time record of 28-18. Josh is now a member of the FWAA and USBWA.

However, after winning national titles in 1978 and 1979, the legendary Bear was still on the sidelines November 15, 1980 when his No. 5 Crimson Tide lost at home to No. 6 Notre Dame, 7-0 - which helped put the Irish into the Sugar Bowl in head coach Dan Devine's final season versus No. 1 Georgia.
