These and other services will change the way Volvo customers interact with their auto.

The app can only unlock the vehicle's doors and trunk, it can't be used to turn on the ignition, said Rohit Shrivastava, general manager for Amazon Key.

According to Amazon, Prime members are now eligible to take part in the new Key-In Car delivery service.

Amazon already enables in-home delivery using keyless systems.

Amazon Key In-Car Delivery requires a 2015 model year or newer Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicle. Amazon says support for more vehicle makes and models will be added over time. Visit my.chevrolet.com, my.buick.com, my.gmc.com or my.cadillac.com to learn more.

Should a driver be unable to locate a vehicle at the time of delivery, there is an option in the Amazon Key App to attempt delivery at a backup location near the location of where a vehicle is parked. For model year 2015-2017, Volvo offers a free 1-year subscription to Prime members, and for model year 2018 or newer, Volvo offers a free 4-year subscription.

In-car delivery is one of several digital consumer services offered by Volvo via the Volvo On Call platform.

In-car delivery is available at no extra cost for Prime members and is available today in 37 cities and surrounding areas across the USA with more cities rolling out over time.

The in-car delivery service is easy and convenient. "Prime members now have another way to ensure their packages are safe and secure-all for no additional cost". On the day of the delivery, they'll be given a four-hour delivery window. Select your preferred in-car delivery option and complete your order. "It won't tell them where their next delivery is until that happens", said Shrivastava. Customers receive a notification via the Amazon Key App after the delivery is completed and the vehicle is relocked.

Amazon has announced it will now start offering deliveries to a person's locked vehicle. No codes or keys are provided to delivery drivers.

Amazon unlocks and re-locks cars using an "encrypted authentication process". When the delivery person is on the way to their location, they'll get another notification. We only actually do the unlock if its [sic] the right person, right place, right vehicle, right time.
