Tesla's chief executive Elon Musk has told staff the firm is undergoing a "thorough reorganisation" after two of its cars were involved in crashes last week. As part of the reorg, we are flattening the management structure to improve communication, combining functions where sensible and trimming activities that are not vital to the success of our mission.
Tesla will "continue to hire rapidly in critical hourly and salaried positions to support the Model 3 production ramp and future product development", according to the memo.

"Tesla has not yet received any data from the vehicle and thus does not know the facts of what occurred, including whether Autopilot was engaged", a Tesla spokesperson said in a statement on Sunday.
On 2 May Musk said Tesla would conduct "a reorganisation restructuring" during May, without providing more details.
He added: The number of sort of third-party contracting companies that we're using has really gotten out of control, so we're going to scrub the barnacles on that front.
The tech tycoon went on to praise the safety of the Model S, saying that it was "amazing" the driver only broke her ankle in the accident and that "an impact at that speed usually results in severe injury or death".
