Kensington Palace tweeted: "Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle have asked that The Most Reverend Michael Bruce Curry, the 27th Presiding Bishop and Primate of The Episcopal Church, give the address at their wedding".
"The love that has introduced and can bind Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle collectively has its supply and origin in God, and is the important thing to life and happiness", Curry, the church's presiding bishop, stated in a press release.
Curry said he would "celebrate and pray for" the royal couple ahead of their wedding next Saturday.
Born in Chicago, Curry was bishop of the North Carolina diocese before being installed as the church's presiding bishop in 2015.
The Episcopal Church is basically referred to as the USA department of the Anglican Communion, which incorporates the Church of England.
Traditionally, sermons at royal weddings are given by senior clergy from the Church of England.

The royal wedding of Meghan Markle, 36 and Prince Harry, 33, will take place in just one week on May 19. Saint James congregant Hope Smith was interested in the Royal Wedding before, but says now it will be a must-see with the Bishop Curry speaking. The dean of Windsor Rev. David Conner, on the other hand, will also be part of the church service. He was also one of the first bishops in the U.S. to allow same-sex marriages to take place in his church.
Curry said after that decision, "They heard from me directly that that's not something that we're considering", according to The Associated Press.
Rev Curry said: 'Discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation is a violation of the fundamental ideal of equality in America'.
Harry and Markle's choice of an American pastor is a break from royal custom. I've made a couple of cack-handed mistakes over the last couple of weddings I've been involved in and I'm thinking this is probably not a good moment to make it a hat-trick.
In 2012, Curry gained fame for his sermon in which he quoted a version of the Bible that refers to Jesus as a insane person.
