Both programs posted flawless four-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores of 1.000 and rank inside the top 10% nationally in their sports.
Today's announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is meant to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.
"We are very proud to have four of our programs receive the NCAA's Public Recognition Award this year", UA Director of Athletics Greg Byrne said.
The women's tennis program has been honored 10 consecutive times, while the men's tennis program was recognized for the fifth time and fourth consecutive. The complete list of teams earning public recognition awards includes baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's cross country, women's cross country, field hockey, football, golf, women's lacrosse, rowing, women's soccer, men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, women's tennis, women's track & field, volleyball and water polo. The latest data is yet another indicator of across-the-board student-athlete success at Villanova. The wrestling program has been recognized eight times, including each of the past four years, and the women's cross country program, directed by John Gondak, has been recognized seven times.
Among individual Notre Dame sports, men's cross country, men's track and field and softball have led the way, having been recognized in all 13 years the public recognition awards have been presented.

The APR measures the eligibility, retention and graduation of student-athletes. Nine teams earned a 100 percent GSR in the NCAA's 2017 report. All Division I teams' April scores will be released May 23.
In addition, Duke was third among ACC schools, trailing only Notre Dame and Boston College and ahead of North Carolina (10), Clemson (7), Virginia (7), Georgia Tech (5), Louisville (5), Syracuse (5), Florida State (4), Virginia Tech (4), Wake Forest (4), Miami (3), N.C. State (3) and Pittsburgh (3).
