Leonardo DiCaprio & Steven Spielberg May Reteam for Ulysses S. Grant Biopic

Steven Spielberg, Leonardo DiCaprio in Early Talks to Reteam for Ulysses S. Grant Biopic

As per The Hollywood Reporter, the two are reportedly in early talks to collaborate for a biopic on the life of Ulysses S. Grant.

While nothing is set in stone yet, Deadline is reporting that the project is reportedly a priority for both and that DiCaprio and Spielberg are looking to find ways of making the movie work, while David James Kelly works on a script for the movie.

There's no deal in place for Spielberg to direct it and the company Lionsgate is yet to comment on it.

Spielberg has a few other irons in the fire at the moment too, including the forthcoming fifth movie in the Indiana Jones series, and a new screen adaptation of West Side Story. After Lincoln was assassinated, Andrew Johnson was briefly president before Grant was elected and served from 1869 to 1877. As for DiCaprio, he hasn't been in a movie since 2015's The Revenant, for which he won his first Oscar.

The actor has taken some time off from his extreme performances, but looks set to step right back into things starting off with Quentin Tarantino's 1969-set drama Once Upon Time in Hollywood before reportedly taking on the role of former soldier and US President in the planned biopic. We've been skeptical that Spielberg would actually direct Blackhawk ever since that project was announced, so if we're going with Option B.that's the one we'd expect to get sidelined (or, more likely, handed over to Michael Bay). He's also expected to reunite with another director he's worked with, in the shape of Martin Scorsese on a project about another president, Theodore Roosevelt.

Spielberg already made a Civil War era movie with Lincoln.
