"We will not allow any such thing to happen", Congress leader DK Shivakumar said. However, CPM general secretary, Sitaram Yechury tweeted: "JD (S)-Congress are together, past the majority mark & must be called to form the govt and take the floor test #Karnataka".

Earlier in the day, signatures of JD (S) and Congress MLAs were taken in support of Kumaraswamy, which was to be submitted before the Governor.

"The BJP's irrational insistence that it will form a government in Karnataka, even though it clearly does not have the numbers, is to make a mockery of our Constitution", Gandhi said on Twitter. The BJP is defending the Lok Sabha seat against a formidable coalition of smaller/regional parties - Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Rashtriya Lok Dal - supported by the Congress. Vaghani, Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, Deputy CM Nitin Patel and other leaders and workers celebrated the results at the party's headquarter Shri Kamalam in the afternoon.

Mr Modi, addressing BJP party workers, said he was satisfied with the Karnataka polls and called it a win that was unprecedented as the BJP was portrayed as a North Indian party.

"That could embolden the government to pursue reforms in future, including loosening foreign direct investment restrictions and moves towards privatization".

The governor's apparent decision to invite the BJP, as the largest single party, and not the Congress-JDS, to have the first stab at forming a coalition was highly controversial. A deal was sealed, and representatives of the party subsequently met governor Vajubhai Vala to stake claim to form the government.

However, the spotlight also throws into relief the acrimonious campaign the two parties ran against each other, and raises questions on the stability of the government their alliance can even offer to the people of Karnataka.

"In the coming months, we could see more allocations for jobs programs, health care and the farm sector", another senior government adviser said.

"The Karnataka election results are pretty much on expected lines", he said.

Frontier Airlines adding nine new destinations from San Antonio
"We are pleased to add another non-stop destination from Memphis", said Richard Oliver, spokesperson for Frontier Airlines . The new San Antonio route comes on the heels of the airline's new service to Austin, Texas, which launched in April.

He cited the instances of Goa and Manipur where the Congress had emerged as the single largest party sans majority but post-alliances were invited to form governments.

Celebrations started early yesterday morning with senior BJP leaders seen feeding each other candies on live television.

The Congress has 78 MLAs in the new Assembly, which is yet to be formally constituted. Union ministers gave arguments supporting them.

The exact nature of this post-poll coalition will be confirmed once party leaders successfully stake their claim to form the government in front of Governor Vajubhai Vala.

But they may need to be squirrelled out of the state if they are to be kept away from the BJP.

"In a case like this where the opposite side is showing 117 MLAs support, how will you have 112?", Justice Sikri asked Venugopal.

According to reports, the Congress-JD (S) combine issued an orange alert on Wednesday morning after 5 Karnataka MLAs went "incommunicado". According to the Constitution, the decision of the Governor is final and the validity of anything done by him as a matter of his discretion can not be questioned.

"The bitter enemies want to come together just for a marriage of convenience".
