Sebastian Vettel wins Canadian Grand Prix for 50th career victory

"The meaning of Ferrari in this country is huge, with the history", said Vettel, a four time F1 champion when he raced for Red Bull Renault.

Australian Daniel Ricciardo, victorious in Monaco two weeks ago, was sixth in the second Red Bull as his team-mate Verstappen, who had been fastest throughout practice, continued to deliver a flawless riposte to his critics. It could have been better but everybody makes it so dramatic'.

Max Verstappen completed a clean sweep in Friday practice for the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix, taking the top spot in both sessions.

After that moment, which Verstappen was praised for by his team as he avoided getting caught up in an incident, the Dutchman was never able to mount another attack.

"The vehicle was incredible in qualifying and it just kept getting quicker", said Vettel, whose Ferrari team were using new engines.

This is Vettel's second victory in Canada, having won his first for Red Bull in 2013, and marks his 50th career victory - only Michael Schumacher, Hamilton and Alain Prost have scored more.

Trudeau 'stabbed us in the back' at G7: US economic advisor
Discussing Russia's absence, Trump made the vague comment that "something happened a while ago where Russia is no longer in". Our Tariffs are in response to his 270% on dairy!" Trudeau refused to respond early Sunday to the insults.

"So far everything went well and I have a good feeling".

In spite of the head-butt threat- which Verstappen did not follow through on - Ricciardo said he thinks his teammate can handle the pressure. Vettel's lone pit stop on the 38th of 70 laps saw him emerge with a six-second lead.

"Now he (Verstappen) is in the spotlight. any small error now I think he's probably going to get a little picked apart from", Ricciardo said. Because he has already used the allotment of two, replacing it would have saddled him with a grid penalty. "And if it runs reliable, we'll do the whole weekend with it".

The most eventful part of Vettel's race after that came at the start of the final lap, when the chequered flag was shown more than one lap early. So I am just focusing on what is ahead, and I am confident that I can turn things around.

The semi-permanent track combines long straights with tight chicanes and each team sets up their auto to maximize straight line speed, although the cars also need to deliver a good ride over the relatively tall curbs. "If we can escape this weekend without it, I'd rather take it somewhere else".

From pre-season testing, through Monaco and right up to yesterday morning, Mercedes have steadfastly avoided using the hypersoft tyre introduced by Pirelli this season.
