AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Global Box Office Tops $2 Billion

The Walt Disney Co. announced yesterday that Infinity War reached the mark on Monday, about seven weeks after opening.

Hawkeye, played by actor Jeremy Renner, was absent from most of the marketing material for Avengers: Infinity War and did not appear in the final film, leaving many fans curious about the character's whereabouts and well-being.

"We keep saying, 'Patience is a virtue.'" Joe Russo said before Infinity War's release.

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Becomes Fourth Pic To Cross $2 Billion Global Mark

Marvel's summer tentpole accomplished the feat on Monday with a running global total of $2.002 billion, which includes the domestic gross of $656.1 million and a mighty worldwide cumulative of $1.346 billion. Black Panther remains the top grossing Marvel title stateside and is fighting its way to the $700M finish line, now at $699.4M, third highest of all-time after Force Awakens ($936.6M) and Avatar ($760.5M). Indeed, Infinity War placed at 5 last weekend, having added $7.2 million to its total, even besting the debuting Hotel Artemis, which came in at a disappointing 8. The Marvel tentpole now stands as the fourth highest-grossing film of all time, unadjusted for inflation, behind Avatar ($2.79 billion), Titanic ($2.19 billion), and Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.07 billion). It's now the third highest-grossing offshore release of all time behind Avatar ($2.027 billion), and Titanic ($1.528 billion). In China, the film's US$369.7 million gross to date ranks third all-time. It also holds the record for the biggest domestic debut of all time as it earned $257.7 million in its opening weekend on 27 April - during that weekend it also became the second fastest film to earn $100 million and the fastest to $200 million. It's the only the tenth film in China's history to earn more than 2 billion yuan in total and just the third import film to do so. James Cameron is still, after all these years, king of the world. But according to the Russo Brothers, everything will make sense with the release of next year's Avengers 4.

The movie, which stars Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, and Benedict Cumberbatch, among many others, is now the third consecutive Avengers movie to break the $1 billion barrier.
