Doctor Sleep picks up with Danny decades after the events of The Shining, when he follows in his father's footsteps of alcoholism and anger issues, blotting out his lingering trauma and his "shining" abilities with his drinking problems. The outlet notes that author Stephen King has given his blessing to McGregor's casting. The Beginners star will play an aged Danny Torrance, who we originally met in Stanley Kubrick's 1980 horror masterpiece The Shining, which starred Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall.

In Doctor Sleep, McGregor's Danny has grown into an angry drunk trying to self-medicate the pain away and repress his shining abilities.

In September of 2013, Stephen King released his sequel to his 1977 bestseller The Shining. Torrence starts using his gift to communicate with the dying at a local hospice center, and his story takes a turn after he meets a young girl who also has "shining" powers.

Why Texas Cities Should Host the 2026 World Cup
On July 7, Orlando City SC will host a day-long watch party at Orlando City Stadium for the World Cup quarterfinal match at 2 p.m. Russia's win was also the biggest in a World Cup opener in 84 years since Italy's 7-1 over the United States in 1934.

Doctor Sleep is scheduled for a 2020 release. Like his father, he starts down a risky path of alcohol and rage until he comes into contact with a young girl in a hospice who shares his "shining" abilities, and who is also being targeted by a group with the same capabilities.

This marks the second time that McGregor will step into the role of an adult version of a literary character, with the arrival of Disney's Christopher Robin set to happen later this year.

Mike Flanagan is now on board to write and direct, with filming slated to start later this year.
