Ronaldo to get jail time?

Ronaldo is unlikely o serve jail time under the terms of the deal with the Spanish tax authorities for the country's law states restricts it to be served on probation if an accused is sentenced for under two years for a first offense.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man and where football is concerned there is no man quite like Cristiano Ronaldo.

A similar situation occurred involving another high-profile soccer player, Lionel Messi, who was convicted of tax fraud with his father, Jorge Horacio Messi, totaling $4.5 million, the Associated Press reported.

The Real Madrid star denied allegations of tax evasion when he appeared in court previous year, but according to El Mundo, he has reached an agreement with the Spanish tax authorities. Another is Ronaldo with Real Madrid.

Spain face Portugal on Friday in a mouthwatering clash following the extraordinary sacking of coach Julen Lopetegui while Egypt left out Mohamed Salah and suffered a gut-wrenching 1-0 defeat in the final minutes to Uruguay.

Yet he remedied that perceived dearth against Spain, nabbing a hat-trick in Friday's 3-3 draw to open their World Cup campaign.

Spain to face Portugal
This will be the first World Cup held in Europe since the 2006 tournament in Germany, and the first to be held in Eastern Europe. Iran's win was just their second ever at a World Cup; their only previous victory was a 2-1 win over the United States in 1998.

"I think we deserved to win", said Diego Costa, who had his best game in five years with Spain. Since finding the net at Euro 2004, he has gone on to grab goals at three further European Championships and four successive World Cups.

Spain quickly got into their stride and Costa equalised in the 24th minute as he latched onto a long ball forward by Sergio Busquets, bundled off a challenge from Pepe, slipped around two defenders and slotted his shot past Rui Patricio.

"The mister [interim coach Fernando Hierro] is with me and the whole team, so I am calm", he said.

"We feel very proud of the players after the adversity of the match itself", he said.

With his first goal of the day, a penalty in the fourth minute, Ronaldo became just the fourth player to score in four different World Cups, joining Pele, Uwe Seeler and Miroslav Klose.
