Asking someone depressed to “snap out of it” is the equivalent of telling someone with a broken leg to continue walking

On seeing news last week of first Kate Spade's and then Anthony Bourdain's deaths due to suicide by hanging, I had a flashback to the day in October 2014 when my mom called me about my nephew. Well, we truly hope that Deepika's heartfelt letter strikes a chord with people, particularly those who are battling depression. Experts suggest that the stress of modern society, including overworking and constantly being on the phone, adds to the alarming rise in depression and mental illness in America. The study found that the rates of death by suicide from 2000 to 2016 increased by 21% for boys and men and 50% for girls and women, the article reported.

Almost 45,000 Americans killed themselves in 2016, according to the CDC, but suicide deaths only account for part of the problem.

Andy - who was living apart from Kate at the time of her death - said: "Kate was the most lovely woman in the world".
